You know, when I started the Anime thread all that time ago (back when I was Legato…ah, the good ol' days), I had no idea it would become the biggest thread on the site. Heck, I just wanted to talk anime with people who knew what they were talking about. Then the thread grew, fizzled a bit a few times, and grew some more. Finally, it got too big for the board. Heh, imagine that. It was a centerpiece for the DBT site, I mean, it was 20-21 pages long, became the only thread ever to get it's own section/board, was the cause of my ill-conceived rebellion (which has made leaving the board posts cheaper than death in the Marvel Universe :) and other things as well. And now, you, be you newbie, elitist, or board vet can view it in it entirety, thanks to Dan and Kap and other people probably. But you should also thank the following, because without them, this thread would be nothing:
Char Azneble, Insane Ben, Nightwing, Bulma 18 (Vicious) - they were some of the main guys in the thread, and never disappointed. Unfortunately, at time of writing, Char has disappeared.
Kenshirou - heck, he probably made at least two pages worth of thread with those gigantic posts of his.
Cland97 - rebel without any thinking ahead, and one of my best buds on and off the board. He kept the thread pretty interesting.
Portugy - for the chuckles…most of the time.
Rusty - for being "Archie"
Emerje - you came in as a newbie in my thread and turned into one of the best on the board. Couldn't be prouder.
Rosy (Blues) - Same reason as Emerje, only Rosy became a pal rather than a good boardie. Though it is fun to see him lambaste newbies with large amounts of sarcasm.
Atticus - because last time I did a thanks thing, he got peeved cause he wasn't in it :) Oh yeah, and the whole productive poster thing…should include that, neh?
Kappa - for not flying down from Canada and choking the holy crap out of me for me berserking at him for deleting the thread in the first place.
Despotes - for letting me do this and for having the site in the first place.
Well, I've kept you long enough (assuming you read this). So, without further ado, I (and Dan and DBT) present my biggest contribution to the DBT site: The Anime Thread. Enjoy it. I know I did.
Ok everyone, I'll
make this simple. This is where we talk about ANIME.
Nohing else. ANIME. I'm sorry to be a hard nose about
this but there's really been a lack of intelligent
conversation around here. If you're going to post in
this thread, please try to follow these guidelines:
1. Keep the subject on anime. I'm begging you. 2.
Everyone's got a right to their opinion. If someone
thinks an anime sucks, that's their business as long as
they don't flaunt it. 3. Most important: USE SPELL
CHECK!!! 4. Do a little research before you shoot off
your mouth about a series. No body likes anyone taking
out their butts. 5. No hentai including yaoi. 6.
Please be civil to newbies/uneducated. They don't know
any better. Otaku and anime facists are two diffrent
things. Keep them that way.
Despotes, I'm sorry if I've overstepped my boundries
here but I'm dying to talk to some REAL otakus.
Thanks and let the otaku knowledge fly!

I have only seen the
first episode (which I just saw yesterday), but Area 88
seems pretty cool. It's got a good deal of emotional
points, plus a bit of comic relief where it's needed. I
just hope the next two episodes are available on DVD
too...
I'll answer the
Trigun question: It's a very good series and uproarusly
funny until the fourth tape, Gung Ho Guns. Then it gets
more violent (Demons Eye features two bloodbaths by
Legato's TK and the Gung Ho Guns) with less comedy but
it's still an exelent show.I highly suggest the DVDs as
they're bilingual.
Portugy, I'm honored you remember my Anime Learning
Tree. I hope ths lasts longer than that did.
Just wondering, who's
seen Fist of the North Star. I've heard of it's
ledgendary violence and was wondering if the stories are
true. On a side note, has anyone else played the NES or
GB game. I've played the NES one.

Fist of the North
Star was actually the first "real" anime I ever saw...
It's not JUST non-stop violence...but it does have
some pretty gruesome fights. The movie contains multiple
bursting veins, a few arm rips, multple bodies being
chopped to bits, MULTIPLE exploding heads, several full
body explosions, a few fingers through the chest cavity,
a partially sawed-off head, a saw blade imbedded in the
skull, a few full-body crushes, soldiers being eaten by
a giant, and a squished head or two. Mixed in with a few
random people being slaughtered by gang members and you
got your self "Fist of the North Star." It's a pretty
old school movie...like '84 I believe...but it's worth a
watch. It's a fun movie.(Don't look for any deep meaning
here...just an action adventure story.)

Some anime titles I
recommend: -Tenchi Muyo (any series and/or movie
except for Tenchi In Tokyo and DoD) -The
Slayers -Rurouni Kenshin -Cowboy Bebop -Neon
Genesis Evangelion -Tekkaman Blade II -Trigun
-Dual -El Hazard (OVA series) -Gundam 0080:
War In The Pocket -Gundam Movie Trilogy -Super
Atragon -Princess Mononoke -Ninja
Scroll -Escaflowne
I don't know. It's like every other violent anime,
but something about it gives me the creeps. It's very
strange. Any other gruesome anime, I can handle. But
Ninja Scroll just freaks me out.
Now that I think of it, it's probably some kind of
traumatic thing that happened when I was a kid. I need
to go see a psychiatrist.

Yeah, Ninja Scroll
gives me the heebie jeebies too.
Insane, I think all the series you mentioned are
good, except those I haven't heard of (Super Atragon).
And I wholeheartedly agree that DoD and Tenchi in Tokyo
suck very much.

Legato Bluesummers (Leader) Dominique the
Cyclops Monev the Gale Zazzie the Beast Hopperd
the Gantret Grey the Ninelives Midvalley the

Dei the Blade Lenof the Puppetmaster Caine the

That was for no reason whatsoever. I just felt like
writing them

Here are some good
titles that nobody has mentioned yet: -Ranma
1/2 -Macross Plus -Wings of the
Honneamise -Akira -Ghost in the Shell -The
Castle of Cagliostro Castle is pretty old, but it was
made by Miyazaki, who also made Princess Mononoke, so it
is awesome nonetheless. Honneamise is a little bit
boring due to lack of violence, but the storyline makes
up for that. Anyway, Ninja Scroll isn't really
creepy, but rather shocking. It's still good though.

I really like Ninja
Scroll. It was one of the first real Animes that I
really watched. I love all the voilence, especially when
the shadow guy (cant remember his name, the one that
hides in the shadows and shoots out the chain at people)
gets his leg cut off and he just hops away like nothing
happened. That movie is awesome. I noticed that a lot
of Joe Madurera's art has Ninja Scroll influences, he
must be a fan too.
I'm not sure what you
mean by Benny Hill dirty, but Ranma is NOT porno dirty.
There is a bit of nudity, but not a whole lot. Whenever
there is nudity, it usually isn't meant to be dirty, but
more for humour's sake. Ranma can also get slightly
repetitive at times though, but so does every other long
running series(ie- Dragonball). It's still one of my
favorites though.

I wish every day
ended with me being chased through a field by three
women in bikini's, two dozen old men in suits and a four
year old on a horse with the Benny Hill music playing.
Well, on my Trigun
question I am gonna see if it's any good... I am
going to get the $$60,000,000,000 man on Tuesday, plus a
really good deal on the Dragonball- The Saga of Gokou
(episodes 1-13) with a full length feature. It's
almost my birthday, that's why I am gettin this stuff...

Thanks for the Ranma
heads up. I didn't think it was that bad, but you never
know...
Ninja Scroll seems like it's going to be a long
running debate here...I personaly don't like the
animation, the story, or the sick crap I've heard about
it. If you like it, I don't think you're a sicko or a
blood luster. If anyone has seen Trigun vol. 5 "Angel
Arms", I thought what Legato did to theose Rodrick
Thieves members was freaking awesome. He used his TK to
bend a guy's arm backwards then kill the guy with his
own hand (no clue how he did that)and then made the rest
of the Thives shoot each other while he ate a steak. And
the whole time, the house band kept playing (of course,
the saxophonist was a Gung Ho Gun, but that's a WHOLE
diffrent train of thought).
SS Trunks, when you see Trigun, don't judge the wole
sereis on the first tape. From vol 4 "Gung Ho Guns" on
the series s much more intense.
And Benny Hill rules.

I was reading this
thread over and I noticed that I seemed to come off a a
complete wimp about nudity. Quite frankly, I could care
less when someone's nude. But there's a line between
Kamesennin/Tenchi/Ranma nudity and hentai. I can handle
blood no problem, dismembering is a bit of a strain, but
when guts fly, so does my figurative lunch. I just do
not like gore. I've seen Gladitor, Patriot, Aliens,
Predator, Scream, I know What You Did Last Summer (1-2),
and bits and pieces of various other Horror flicks. But
animated gore just gives me a queesy feeling in my
stomach. Now, I say we drop the gratitutous violence
topic for a while and talk about better things. Like
what, no clue. Maybe one of you guys has a series you'd
like to promote?

I have a series I'd
like to promote (well, two, actually): El Hazard: The
Magnificent World. It's about four school members
(Makoto, his rival Jinnai, his love interest and
Jinnai's sister, Nanami, and his teacher, Mr. Fujisawa)
being transported to a mystical realm called El-Hazard.
Mayhem, action, and madness ensue. It's from the
director of Tenchi Muyo, and is fun to watch. I
recommend watching the first OVA series first (since I
have yet to see the TV series or the second OVA
series). Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure. Think of
it as Neon Genesis Evangelion light, with a touch of
El-Hazard thrown in. The series was done by the same
creative team that brought you Tenchi Muyo, so it must
be good (and it is). Volumes 1 and 2 are out now, and
volume three is set to be released on 1/30.
What little amount of
Bubblegum Crisis I saw I liked.. Ah! My Goddess is okay
for a settled down anime...
Neon Genesis Evangelion is awesome... Ranma 1/2 is as
funny as it gets...
Ghost in the Shell is Beautiful (Masemune Shirow is
the man... [Besides Akira Toriama])...
I've had the entire set of Record of Lodos War for
about four years now, and I haven't watched it all... I
keep getting half way through and lose interest...
...It all seems like a Japanese Lord of the Rings
anyways...
How violent is Lodoss
(I'm like a broken record...)? Is it available on DVD
bilingual? The same too questions apply to the Kenshin
TV series. Out of these three series, which should I
start. If these are availble on DVD, please tell me
where to find them: Kenshin TV Series Ranma
1/2 Cardcaptor Sakura
Thanks.

I have seen both the
Original Lodoss War and the Chronicles of the Heroic
Knight. Yah kappa, the Original Lodoss War does get
rather boring half way through. Especially when one of
my favorite characters die Anyways, the first series
looks like 3x better, but you never truly see much
violence. However, Chronicles of the Heroic Knight,
while drawings are a bit worse, have a much more
exciting group and the animation is great (well at least
somewhat good :P) I recommend seeing them. Strangely
enough, Chronicles of the Heroic Knight takes place
before the ending of the Original Record of Lodoss War,
but changes it and all...well, you'd have to see it to
know what I mean

I know Kenshin and
CardCaptor Sakura are both on DVD, IM not too sure how
many Kenshin DVD's are out there but i think they got up
to like the Oniwabanshuu arc (not sure what ep there at.
And theres only one CCS DVD.
Both great shows, Kenshin is pretty violent, im sure
you would like it Legato. CCS is cute, funny and well its
just like everyother clamp series.
Just make sure ya get the "CardCaptor Sakura" DVD not
"cardcaptors".
The manga for both titles is 100% but thats just my
taste
