Bandai America returns to the US with new DBZ toys

Action Figure Leader Bandai America Inc. Makes its Triumphant Return as the Property’s Master Toy Licensee

“Beginning Spring 2008, the Dragon Ball Z toy line will be reborn like no one has ever seen before,” said Colleen Sherfey, director of marketing, Bandai America. “With our expertise in action figures, existing fans will have their ravenous demand for exclusive Dragon Ball products satiated, while new kids will be drawn in by the unique play patterns and toys.”

It is unknown whether these new toys will be rereleases of toys made by Bandai Japan, or if they will be all new toys for the US market. Considering the difference in collecting between the countries, fans in the US are likely hoping the figures will be in the 5 to 6 inch scale that Irwin and Jakks Pacific created previously.

Latest Game Releases and Movie 13 Update

Dragonball Z Movie 13: “Wrath of the Dragon”

DBZMovie13Cover.jpg

The final Dragonball Z movie will be released on DVD this fall. Current sources have the release date listed as September 12, 2006. This movie contains the exciting battle between the Z Warriors and the demon Hildegarn, the only use of Son Goku’s awesome Dragonfist attack in the Z series, and the origins of the sword carried by Trunks. Movie 13 is one worth owning, so keep an eye out for it later this year.

Super Dragonball Z

SuperDBZCover.jpg

The latest Dragonball Z video game is an arcade port to the Playstation 2 console. Developed by some of the very same people who created the classic fighting game Street Fighter II, Super Dragonball Z is a fighting game in the same vein as its legendary predecessor. Super Dragonball Z boasts a roster of only 18 playable characters. While this may seem rather limited to many fans of Dragonball, it allows for each of the characters to play in a unqiue way with individual move sets. This is favorable to some fighting game fans over having 100 characters that are nothing but generic copies of each other with identical move sets. July 18th, 2006 is the scheduled release date for this game. That is not far off, so be on the look out for this one real soon.

Dragonball Advanced Adventure

I was wrong, this game finally arrived on our shores and is now available for the Gameboy Advance. One of the best 2D platformer/brawlers I’ve played, I highly recommend this game.

Dragonball Z Budokai 3 Special Edition

Also, don’t forget to grab Dragonball Z Budokai 3 Special Edition if you see it and haven’t picked it up yet. At only $19.99 with battle engine fixes, additional playable characters, Japanese voices option and other additions over the original version, it would be a mistake to pass it up. Check my previous news update on that title for information on grabbing the right copy.

HURRY! DBZ movies 6 and 12 in select theaters!

I just got back from the premiere tonight (Friday) in Dallas, Texas, and it was really cool; $5.50 for a student ticket (with ID), free DBZ shirt (apparently early people got them), and 2 movies for the price of one!

Anyway, the double-feature will be playing at limited theaters and in limited cities. You can find out which cities, theaters, and times at . In Dallas, there are only TWO more showings: Saturday at 10PM and Tuesday at 10PM (this is the FINAL showing). The movies are only being shown for extremely limited times for some reason, so don’t miss them!

The movies are “Return of Cooler” and the brand new… well… newly dubbed “Fusion Reborn.” The Cooler movie isn’t that great, but it serves as a good warmup to the Janemba movie which is simply great. I’ve seen the movies in Japanese in the past, and although the Cooler movie was … well… cooler in Japanese than English; the Janemba one is definitely better in English. You simply can’t enjoy this movie when reading subtitles. Go check them out!
